Roughly fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; investigators are presently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were working "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A senior representative said the vandalism left him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
