The UK is ready to advance with using the entire amount of seized Russian assets to bolster the Ukrainian defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a collective announcement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would increase strain on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the decision would be implemented in tight collaboration with the US.

UK sanctions have blocked more than £25bn of Russian resources since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. Yet, previously, resources provided to the Ukrainian government using Russian assets had exclusively been taken from earnings and returns generated on them.

Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their desire to advance efforts toward employing the complete amount of the immobilized Russia's state assets to halt hostilities.

He stated that further restrictions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Moscow.

This declaration comes after EU representatives met in Copenhagen recently to discuss using frozen Russia's holdings for a €140 billion credit to Ukraine.

In the previous month, President Donald Trump urged G7 allies to seize or otherwise use seized Russia's funds, as reported by news outlets.

The worth of immobilized Russia's funds in the EU is assessed to be approximately €211bn.

Leader Zelensky urges UK's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl initiative

The Russian government carried out widespread bombardments all over Ukraine on Friday, resulting in power cuts in many areas of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and several other zones.

Several persons were lost their lives and at least 20 people were hurt in the assault, the Ukrainian government reported.

In a message on X after the strike, Zelensky wrote that the cynical and calculated attack aimed at civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What is required is not mere statements but concrete steps - from the US, the European Union, and the seven nations - in supplying air defence systems and implementing penalties," he wrote.

"Every sanction decision weakens Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

In the same period, Zelensky stated to the press he would press Sir Keir to join the Purl programme, under which Nato countries purchase military equipment from the US to donate to the Ukrainian forces.

While commending the United Kingdom's firm backing for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should indicate firmly that it would participate in the initiative, as well as impose additional sanctions on the Russian Federation.
