The teenager has featured in seven matches for Real Madrid, including five appearances in the starting lineup.

Whenever a teenage creates club a historic moment in a key European match against Manchester City, it inevitably draws praise and attention.

In only his first start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the team - the young midfielder suitably impressed as the 15-time Champions League winners secured a 3-0 round of 16 first-leg advantage at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The young player, who also had his club debut in the play-off round a few weeks prior with a cameo off the bench at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted Los Blancos defeat the English champions in Tuesday's return to confirm a last eight berth.

At 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder was the club's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, surpassing Brazil forward Vini Jr's previous mark by 10 days.

Rapid Ascent Through La Fabrica

The midfielder is the latest to emerge from the famed youth system and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting protegees.

He joined Madrid from Leganes in 2023, having formerly spent time at Atletico and Getafe academies, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a strong impression.

Pitarch worked his way up to the B team and it was during a friendly match in which they faced the senior squad, then managed by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the current Real boss, who replaced Xabi Alonso in the new year.

Spanish media would later describe the moment as "an instant connection," adding he excelled not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, character and determination he added to the team.

'His Best Attribute Is His Character'

In the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Alonso called up the youngster to train with the senior squad and gave him minutes during the warm-up matches.

However, it was Arbeloa's appointment that proved the defining moment in his career as he came on as a late substitute in each leg against the Portuguese side that set up the clash with Manchester City.

"I have dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the very first time I started playing football, every day you go to train and every day you play a match," stated the player after his first appearance.

"I've just fulfilled my dream with the best team in the planet and in the top tournament."

Given a first start in the Spanish league against Getafe - where he spent several seasons after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his place for the next four as fitness issues to Jude Bellingham and Dani Ceballos provided an opportunity.

Pitarch has seized it with displays that have defied his youth and experience.

"He is a extremely fast player, and you can see what he's capable of," remarked the coach. "He's incredibly dynamic, with great stamina, work-rate and mobility."

Pitarch's mentality has also impressed his manager.

"His greatest quality is his personality," continued he. "He always wants the ball, and when pressed, he doesn't feel it.

"I understand fans might be surprised to watch him make his debut in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had complete confidence in him to do his normal game.

"Thiago will continue to get opportunities with the first team. It is delightful to have a player like him."

Spain or Morocco?

Pitarch was born in a Madrid suburb, in the Spanish capital's community, and was raised fully immersed in Spanish football, moving through youth setups before joining Real Madrid's renowned La Fabrica system.

He holds dual Spanish and Moroccan citizenship, giving him the option to play for both nations at the highest level.

According to Fifa eligibility rules, footballers may appear for different countries at junior level without being locked in, with the ultimate choice only binding once they appear in a competitive full international.

He has played for Spain at youth level, turning out for both the U19 and U20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where La Roja reached the last eight.

Nevertheless, he has yet to commit to either full national side, who are watching his rise with keen attention.

Speaking recently, the player said: "I haven't made my ultimate choice yet. Things are great with Spain, but I will reach a decision soon."

This scenario mirrors that of other dual nationality talents such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose La Roja, Brahim opted to play for the Atlas Lions.

Focus on the Future

At present, his attention is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and rewarding his manager's belief.

He played 74 minutes in the two-one victory at the Etihad, which completed a five-one aggregate success and a last-eight tie with Bayern Munich.

His substitution by fellow youth graduate in Angel to emphasise the coach's confidence in the next generation to aid the team pursue future success.

After his impressive impact to date on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"Arbeloa handles me the identical way. We deal with it very normally. I attempt not to overanalyze it excessively - I have to deserve my playing time on the field," he said following the win at Manchester.
