The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived this week.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven begins with AC-12 no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to combat corruption within the law enforcement.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been compelled to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor noted: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and looking forward to those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC has not yet announced exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The finale of season six drew the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
