Although Germany's populace were known for a reputation as Europe's most devoted naturists, new findings suggests that Danish individuals are not only more tolerant about undressing publicly, and also more prone to have practiced it.

Overall Perspectives Across Europe

While most people in all participating nations objected to being unclothed in places such as public swimming pools and parks, Danish attitudes stood out. Approximately 35% Denmark's participants considered it fine to remove clothing on a regular beach, while 87% believed going nude in personal outdoor space was perfectly fine.

Open Countryside Attitudes

Danish respondents showed greater openness toward public nakedness in the rural areas. Meanwhile, majorities in other surveyed states – from as low as 58% in the German population to seventy-eight percent in British respondents – considered naked rambling as unacceptable.

Skinny Dipping Practices

Concerning open water nudity in the ocean, lakes and waterways, Danes showed noticeably the greatest acceptance. Around sixty-four percent viewed the behavior completely fine, in contrast to just 25% of Italian respondents, thirty-one percent of French respondents, thirty-two percent of Britons and forty-nine percent of Germans.

Research revealed that just twelve percent of Danish respondents had practiced nudity in official nudist locations like shorelines or campgrounds. This exceeded UK involvement at 6%, paralleled French percentages at fourteen percent and Italian at 11%, but fell below Spanish twenty-two percent plus Germany's twenty-five percent.

Openness to Future Nudity

Danish respondents also demonstrated greater willingness to engage in public nudity going forward. Approximately 50% indicated they would consider to undress in a open space, compared with forty-two percent of participants from Germany, thirty-eight percent of respondents from Spain, 34% of participants from France and twenty-nine percent of both British people and respondents from Italy.

Population Differences

Across all participating states, male participants showed more interest than women toward public nudity. Generational differences furthermore appeared: In Denmark, younger generations appeared more open to clothing-optional practices, while in Germany the contrasting situation emerged.

Specifically, 31% of young adults indicated interest to strip off in public, versus nearly half of senior Germans.
