The pace bowler has claimed over 300 dismissals in 71 appearances with an average of 22.10.

Australia's selection chief George Bailey has declared that skipper Cummins will be a central figure in the forthcoming historic rivalry.

Speculation had been growing that Cummins might sit out due to a stress fracture in his back that remained unresolved.

Initial reports from the Australian camp suggested no final decision had been made regarding whether he would play, with the five-Test series scheduled to begin on the 21st of November in the WACA.

He revealed that Cummins is "building up" and felt positive about the likelihood of being involved.

"We're aware that time is getting short and multiple considerations at play, aside from the back issue, but further aspects," Bailey remarked.

"We're encouraged. [We are] really confident that he will feature a major part. Ideally from the opening match. Should that not happen, we'll adjust."

Past Concerns

The captain missed the ODI and T20 games against both Asian and Trans-Tasman rivals last month after medical tests showed a lower back issue.

Previous incidents include of recurring issues, with flare-ups in several earlier campaigns leading to absences from three Australian summers in four years.

Cummins stated he would be bold in recovery efforts in his recovery plan to secure his spot for the series.

The selector indicated that he did not know if he had started his bowling workouts as part of his comeback but acknowledged it was "becoming urgent" for him to be fit for the initial match.

Alternative Arrangements

Should Cummins not be fit, former captain Steve Smith will lead the side.

All-rounder Cameron Green was excluded lately from the national team for their one-day international series against India as a safety move because of soreness in his side.

He labeled it as a "slight concern and mentioned that Green will play in the Sheffield Shield, so will be "in a good place to resume bowling."

"Considerable effort has gone into creating the schedule for him to take part for the opening match as an dual-role player," the selector detailed.

"He was only going to play the first two ODIs in any case. His aggressive style the cricket bat in white-ball cricket, if it causes any delay for another day, we just made the decision to approach this more conservatively."
