Over 50 solitary young refugees who went missing not long after arriving the UK and while being looked after by official bodies are remain unaccounted for, according to information obtained.

A significant number of the unaccounted minors entered in small boats or hidden in the backs of trucks and are thought to have been taken by criminal networks. This region is often the area where they arrive.

Freedom of information records has recorded 345 children vanishing from their area, with 56 of those remaining unaccounted for.

Between 2021 and 2023, when temporary accommodations for children were run along with similar establishments in various locations, 132 children vanished from these facilities. Among them, 108 were eventually recovered but 24 are still missing.

Between 2020 and August 2025, 213 children vanished from reception centres for this group, with 182 found and 32 still missing.

Origin Statistics of Missing Children

In both cases, Albanian children were the biggest contingent to vanish, making up a full half the aggregate from the hotels, 68, and in excess of one-fourth from the welcome hubs, 65.

The next most common ethnic groups to have disappeared from the two settings are individuals from Afghanistan then Iranian nationals.
