Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
