A man who spiked candy with sedative and provided them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children who were between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
Ruben played a "sweet game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had conducted this practice with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the subsequent day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor stated items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his worries.
She stated the man continued to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative stated the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.
She stated Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a area of five children.
