Ideally, they'd want an Ashes series in Australia where they remain in contention to win back the Ashes following the initial matches.

This is not the case on this occasion, however, after Australia's crushing 82-run win in Adelaide left the home side with a 3-0 lead for the fourth successive Ashes series on Australian grounds.

England's famous supporters' group, the organized fan base, have thousands of supporters flying out for the last two matches in New South Wales and Victoria.

There are also travel parties who will be vacationing in Australia, as well as loved ones embarking on a dream holiday.

The Ryding siblings are a prime example.

The four siblings had their travel arrangements and match passes arranged for the Boxing Day and New Year Tests "12 months ago", hoping to witness a long-awaited triumph.

From afar, they've seen Australia defeat England convincingly in just 11 days from their family home in their hometown.

"All my colleagues has been giving me grief that the series is done for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"Our expectation had been that we would have the series on the line by the time we arrived."

Fading Positivity

Hope was abundant about England's chances of securing a first win in 15 years for a series win in Australia before it began.

However, the situation is now looking at the possibility of continuing a barren spell in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

The tourists - and their followers - will be keen to prevent a dreaded 5-0 scoreline.

One sibling noted the "entertainment" of head coach Brendon McCullum's 'Bazball' in recent years had "renewed interest in" the longest format for followers of the team.

However, the group said they had low expectations for the final two games - and all they are asking for from the players is "a show of spirit".

"All analysts alludes to it, but it all comes down to fortitude. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," added Rory.

"During a long match, you should dig in. Chasing balls 'wide of off stump has never featured in the fundamentals, and that is primarily due to the top order."

Future Prospects

Prompted about he believed England will triumph in a Test in this contest, one fan responded: "It looks like the Australians are superior right now."

Regardless of the result, the siblings are still excited about the trip.

"We are going to have a great time regardless," added another sibling. "We must adopt that outlook."

"Obviously it is unfortunate we can't contest the series, but we have spent so much money already."

"We plan to savor celebrating the holidays out there. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time away from home over Christmas."

An educator, Katie is intent on maximizing the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her time off.

"Should the cricket disappoint, there's always golf to fall back on," she added.
