Grief as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the City of Johannesburg.

A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.

The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building close to the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the property managing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," an official report stated.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Call for Public Assistance

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.

Outpouring of Grief

His sister, Nicole Stock, expressed the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.

"I am devastated. I cannot express the pain," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a voice for many people. He addressed issues courageously about subjects not many people were prepared to tackle. This is a devastating blow."

She appealed to the community to not sharing explicit content from the incident, saying this was an extremely painful time, particularly for Stock's children.

A Multifaceted Career

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that aired on a popular local broadcasting platform.

Beyond his media career, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including private security, supplying high-level security services and protecting major functions across South Africa.

He was also said to be engaged in property management and assisted with building evictions.

His death has caused national trauma and prompted an outpouring of tributes from his audience, the authorities and political parties.

A senior figure commented he was furious and grief-stricken by Stock's untimely death.

"He was forthright boldly and honestly. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a minister. He was a pure example of who we should be," was his tribute.

A public representative commented the "brazen murder of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a tragedy for all South Africans".

A broadcasting director said that "DJ Warras was far beyond a face of a reality series. He was a talented storyteller, a dedicated enthusiast of music and a warm soul who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."

In a statement, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
