A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was attacked in the central business district on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Officials stated the forty-year-old presenter was accosted by a trio of assailants, one of whom opened fire on him before running away.

The motive behind the shooting has not been established and no suspects have been apprehended have taken place, police said.

The Fatal Incident

Authorities indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building close to the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the property managing the installation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, as per local media.

"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they opened fire at him before running from the location on foot," an official report stated.

CCTV footage reportedly captured a suspect with dreadlocked hair and dressed in what appeared to be a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries a short distance away.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and no items were stolen during the incident.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.

"Evidence suggests they covered significant ground after the shooting, and officers have been following their trail to establish their location," remarked an authority figure.

In a statement, the network he worked for affirmed Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his influence "will be remembered".
