Adult Swim's Leading Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and propelled it a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."

A President's Endorsement

Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about observing this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his goal to evolve comedy past its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
